Welcome back, Stewart families! I hope you had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to an exciting year at Stewart School.
Thank you to those who have volunteered to serve as class parents. If you are looking for other ways to get involved at school, there are plenty of openings on our Stewart Board and committees. Email me at stewart@gardencitypta.org to learn what opportunities are available.
Please remember to join the GC PTA for the 2024-25 year. Once-yearly membership covers all of your children in all seven schools. Visit the PTA website to join today! While you’re at it, join our sister organization SEPTA as well. Everyone benefits when we work together.
September is a very busy month at Stewart School. Please make note of these upcoming events and activities:
Back to School Night (BTSN) is on Wednesday, September 18 beginning at 6 PM. More information will be sent home from your classroom teacher. At BTSN you will meet your child’s teacher, learn about grade curriculum and learning standards, and discuss expectations for the upcoming year. You will also have the chance to sign up for field trips and class crafts, schedule parent/teacher conferences, volunteer for PTA committees, and purchase sportswear.
Spirit Week is coming up the week of Monday, September 16. Each day of the week will be celebrated with a special theme, including Comfy Cozy Day, Tie Dye Day, and Jersey Day. Be sure to check the Spirit Week calendar that will be emailed and shared on social media so that your child can fully participate! Friday, September 20 is Spirit Day, and special T-shirts were available for purchase. If you ordered, they'll be delivered to your classroom on or about September 19.
New this year, Stewart School will be entering a decorated car/float in the Homecoming Parade on Saturday, September 21. If you are interested in helping out with this fun project, please email me at stewart@gardencitypta.org.
Picture Day is scheduled for Monday, September 23.
Look for a Photo Day flyer in your child’s backpack for more information about when you will receive your child’s proofs, and how to order pictures online. This important fundraiser supports PTA programs in all of our schools.
The National PTA Reflections Contest is now open. This year’s theme is “Accepting Imperfection.” Students in all grades and of all abilities are encouraged to explore the theme through one of six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. Entries are due by November 5 and entry forms can be found on the PTA website. Please encourage your children to enter!
Each year Garden City has students go on to the county and state contests. We’ve even had a few National Finalists! All district winners will be celebrated at our Reflections awards ceremony in April.
Finally, looking ahead, please join us for our first PTA meeting of the year on October 10 at 9:30 AM in the Stewart School cafeteria. The first meeting is always a wonderful reunion of Stewart parents as we embark on a new school year together. Breakfast will be served!
Enjoy the September reset, and see you at BTSN on the 18th!
