Happy February! Punxsutawney Phil may have seen his shadow, but we are hopeful for an early spring at Stewart School.
I’d like to begin by expressing my heartfelt thanks to the Stewart community for your overwhelming support of The INN in Hempstead during our Holiday Craft Fair in December. Together, we raised $2,794.49 to support families and individuals on Long Island who are poverty stricken and food insecure.
Another important part of our service learning curriculum, Pretzels and Pizza for a Purpose, is back! We held our first Pizza Friday of 2025 on January 31, which raised money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Thank you to the Stewart Health and Safety Committee, led by Andrea Baglio and Michele Rossi, for refreshing and organizing the indoor recess bins. Thank you to all Stewart parents who donated art supplies and indoor games for the bins. These activities are helpful during the cold and dreary winter months, when students may not be able to get outside for recess.
Congratulations to second-grader Willow Griffing, whose visual arts submission for PTA Reflections has advanced to the NYS PTA contest. We are so proud of you!
Looking ahead, our next PTA meeting will be an All-Schools meeting on Monday, March 3rd at 7:30 pm at the Garden City Middle School. Please plan to attend as we come together as a community to discuss important issues in the district and elect this year’s PTA Nominating Committee.
Best of luck to our Stewart Fifth Grade as they prepare to present Annie, Jr on Wednesday, February 12th and Thursday, February 13th. After months of rehearsals, we know that your hard work will pay off. Break a leg!
This month, the PARP committee has planned a virtual visit with Dennis Matthew, author of “How Grizzly Found Gratitude” on Tuesday, February 11 at 7 pm. See the PARP page on the PTA website for more information and Zoom link.
Finally, with spring on the horizon, we are looking forward to several special events. First, our annual PTA fundraising dinner will be held at the Garden City Hotel on Wednesday, March 26. Tickets will go on sale shortly, so be sure to get yours before they sell out! We are also beginning to plan for the Stewart Staff Appreciation luncheon on Friday, May 9 and our Second Annual Stewart Family Carnival on Wednesday, June 18. If you are interested in helping with either of these events, please reach out to me at stewart@gardencitypta.org
Thanks for your continued support, and enjoy the upcoming Winter Recess!
