Happy June, Stewart families! The finish line is in sight.
May was a busy month, filled with concerts and performances, field days, Fourth Grade STEAM Night, Fifth Grade Science Day, and Incoming Second Grade Orientation. Whew! On Thursday, May 30, the PTA brought Amy McCoy, author of “Little Big Sister,” to Stewart to present on learning differences and inclusion and visit each Third Grade class. We also celebrated Everyone Matters Day on May 31. The PTA provided materials for the students to create a variety of calming crafts in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.
May was also Bike Safety and Sun Safety month, and we celebrated both at Stewart thanks to our Health and Safety committee, led by Andrea Baglio and Michele Rossi. Each class made creative and informational Bike Safety posters, which are now adorning the halls and cafeteria.
On May 9, we thanked our wonderful Stewart teachers and staff with our annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon. It was a beautiful event thanks to the Staff Appreciation chairs, Gina Donovan and Ali Volpe, and the Stewart Staff Appreciation committee. Thank you to everyone who generously contributed to this event.
June is full of fun activities! This week we have Second, Third, and Fourth Grade Field Days, and all parents are invited to attend. Fifth Grade Field Day is on June 11. The fifth graders will also celebrate the end of their elementary years on Friday, June 14 at the much-anticipated Stewart/Stratford Fifth Grade Pool Party at the Garden City Pool. Fifth grade parents, look out for a Sign Up Genius to donate to the party.
ALL of our students will have the opportunity to celebrate the end of a successful school year at two events during the last full week of school. First, on Tuesday, June 18, we will host our first ever Family Fun Carnival on the Stewart Fields. Second and Third Grades are invited to attend anytime between 4-5 PM. Fourth and Fifth Grades may come between 5:30-6:30 PM. Parents and siblings are welcome! Thank you to our newly-formed Family Fun committee for planning this event so quickly, and thank you to all of the parents who have generously offered to help with the event. There are still opportunities to get involved! Check out the Sign Up Genius link below to see how you can help. See you all at the carnival!

On June 20, the PTA is treating all Stewart students to an ice cream treat from the Kool Kat ice cream truck, which will visit school between 12:30-2 PM. This is a student-only event, and we hope the kids enjoy!
As the 2023-24 school year comes to a close, I want to thank each of you for the big and little ways that you helped make this school year a success. Thank you to the grade reps and class parents for always sending my messages out on time. Thank you to the Stewart PTA Board and committee members for making Stewart School the special place it is. And, of course, thank you to Mrs. Hand, Mrs. Lindsey, and our teachers and staff for a wonderful year. It is an honor serving as your PTA building director, and I get to do it all again next year!
Good luck to all the fifth graders (including my own ☺) as they begin their next chapter. The Stewart years go so fast, but we look forward to what’s ahead. Have a fabulous summer!
If you are already thinking about ways you can get involved at Stewart next school year, good news! A Sign Up Genius with available board and committee positions will be sent out shortly. We’d love to have you aboard!
Finally, one of the best things that I do as Stewart Director is help serve your kids pizza every other Friday. I want to sing the praises of our Director of Service Learning at Stewart, Mrs. Brenda McCarthy. If you know her, you love her, and for good reason. This year, under her coordination, Stewart families raised $15,573 in pizza sales and $10,066 in pretzel sales to support a variety of charities based on student proposals. That is an incredible amount of money, and we all should feel very proud. I said it before, but I want to close on this: Stewart is a very special place.
