Happy May, Stewart School! I hope everyone had a relaxing spring break. We are in the home stretch, with lots of fun PTA-sponsored activities happening this month.
First, the Stewart Staff Appreciation luncheon is on Friday, May 9. Thank you to everyone who generously donated food and supplies for this event, which honors our wonderful Stewart teachers and staff. If you would like to contribute, please click on the Sign Up Genius link. Thank you to our Staff Appreciation committee for organizing what is sure to be a beautiful event.
Thank you, also, to the Stewart Beautification committee, led by Catherine Griffing, for festively decorating our school for spring. The fresh flowers, garland, wreathes, and colorful rocks are putting a spring in our step as we race toward summer!
Your PTA membership dollars have helped bring amazing programming to our Stewart students this spring. On April 10, Megan Farrell, Assistant U.S. Attorney, spoke to our fifth grade about internet safety and the importance of keeping information private online. Thank you to our Digital Citizenship committee for organizing this event. On May 2, our Arts in Education committee brought the popular World Music assembly back to our third grade students. On May 25, Amy McCoy, author of the “Big Little Sister” series and “Katie Finds Her Voice,” will hold an assembly with third grade students about acceptance and inclusivity. Finally this month, PTA is proud to support Everyone Matters Day, Stewart’s mental health awareness initiative, by donating supplies for Ms. Vincent to do a mindfulness art project with each class. Thank you to our PTA members and volunteers for making these programs possible.
Another wonderful opportunity happening this month is our GOAT USA initiative, an exclusive fundraising and educational partnership, which includes a sticker design contest, an assembly for 4th and 5th grade students with GOAT founder TJ Christina, an entrepreneurship curriculum that may be utilized in all classrooms, and exclusive GOAT USA x Garden City merchandise, which will be available to purchase from May 1-16. Submissions for the sticker contest are due by May 16 and the winner from each school will receive a GOAT duffel bag. Winning sticker designs will be printed for all students at that school. We are grateful to GOAT USA and the hard work of our Sportswear Committee and PTA President, Elizabeth Cendan, for making this opportunity possible.
Looking ahead, the Stewart Family Fun Carnival will take place on Wednesday, June 18 after school. The carnival, open to all Stewart students and families, will feature fun carnival-style games, prizes, inflatables, and plenty of refreshments! A Sign Up Genius will be sent next week with donation requests, as well as opportunities to volunteer. Remember, this event cannot be a success without plenty of parent participation. Thank you in advance for your generosity and your time!
Lastly, a reminder to please remember to vote on May 20 for the 2025-26 school budget and the election of two new Board of Education members.
See you in June!
