Happy December! Homestead had a wonderful month of November! The Kindergarteners enjoyed Thanksgiving activities with their teachers, classes, and families. The First Graders participated in a Service Learning Project. They held a Book Drive for The Book Fairies and decorated bookmarks that were donated along with 14 boxes of books! The first graders had the opportunity to meet a representative from The Book Fairies, who talked about how the books make a difference for others. She also read them an engaging story! We appreciate the students and parents from the Tiger Den of Pack 55, who sorted and packed the books. Also, big thanks to Yasmine Iliya for helping to coordinate the project!
We had our first Primary School PTA meeting, hosted at Locust, and welcomed Ms. Ruby Klein, our speech pathologist. She gave an informative presentation about phonemic awareness and how we as parents can support our little learners at home. Her presentation can be found here. Ms. Klein shares some great resources, so be sure to check it out.
Reflections
Thank you to all of the students who participated in the National PTA Reflections Contest!! Click here to see the winners.
Congratulations to all of you and to all of the 1st & 2nd place winners who will be moving onto the Nassau County level of competition! The awards ceremony will be held in March and we look forward to celebrating these accomplishments.
The Decorating Committee will be transforming the outside of Homestead into a Winter Wonderland. Thank you to Jess Power and Brittany O’Shea for coordinating the efforts. Also, a big thank you to all the families who donated funds to beautify our Homestead School. This wouldn’t be possible without your continued generosity. Thank you!
Now that December is here, we are very much looking forward to the holiday season ahead! The children have been working hard to prepare for their winter concerts and look forward to showcasing their hard work. Please refer to the ParentSquare notification sent from Homestead School as well as the school calendar for details on the date and time of your child’s performance.
The Primary Schools will be holding the annual Toys for Tots drive. All new, unwrapped toys can be placed in the “Toys for Tots” boxes in the main lobby. Toys will be collected from December 1-8, 2023.
Homestead’s Literacy at Lunch program will be starting soon. This program gives parents the opportunity to play games with small groups of children during days of indoor recess. Be on the lookout for an email with important information about the program and how you can participate.
From all of us at the Garden City PTA, we wish you a joy filled holiday season and a Happy New Year!
