Homestead February 2026 Newsletter
HAPPY MARCH HOMESTEAD
We hope everyone enjoyed their February break and the extra snow days. As we begin to see the first signs of spring, we’re looking forward to the warmer weather ahead.
We’re starting the month with daily fun activities as part of Homestead’s Read Across America Spirit Week. Please see PARP’s Committee Updates below for additional activities planned during this special week celebrating reading.
We hope to see you at our upcoming Joint Primary PTA Meeting and In-Person Vote at 9:30AM on Tuesday, March 3rd, at Locust School. The Garden City District Director of Social Sciences will present on how the primary schools will celebrate the 250th Birthday of America, with assistance from our High School AP History students. We also have our Board of Education Meeting at 7:30PM on Tuesday, March 24th at the GCHS.
The PTA is excited to host a Family Fun Day at 1:30PM on Friday, March 6th when there is no school due to Virtual AM Parent/Teacher Conferences. The In-Person PM Parent/Teacher Conferences are on Thursday, March 19th. Report cards will be available on the portal for review on Monday, March 23rd.
Please note that Homestead’s Spring Family Fun event was moved to April 20th.
It’s March Madness in Garden City! The excitement begins with Hoops for Hope at 3:30PM on Monday, March 2nd at the Garden City High School. We are also thrilled to welcome the Harlem Wizards who are visiting Homestead on Tuesday, March 10th for a special preview of their show. Full performance will take place at 6:00PM on Friday, March 20th at the Garden City High School.
Every year, the Garden City PTA proudly provides funding for the Cultural Field Trip for all primary school first grade students, helping create a fun and memorable experience for young learners. This year, along with Hemlock and Locust, we will see a special performance of the musical Dr. Seuss’ Magical Adventure, performed at the Plaza Theater on Friday, March 20th.
COMMITTEE UPDATES
PARP Week (Monday, March 2nd-Thursday, March 5th) kicks off with a virtual author visit with Susan B. Katz 7:00PM on Monday, March 2nd. Thank you to PARP for donating copies of Is It An Alligator Or A Crocodile? And Is It A Butterfly Or A Moth? to the Homestead library! The students will participate in decorating their classroom doors with hand-drawn book covers, which can earn their class a Barnes and Noble gitcard if they win. The week ends with completing a Reading Log and Bingo Log for a chance to earn a Barnes and Noble gift card and a book of their choice!
The last day to sign up for PARP’s Pen Pals is Wednesday, March 18th. Students will receive their pen pal prior to the spring break. Happy writing and remember to send out your letters by the end of April.
GC PTA Annual Dinner is at 6:30PM on March 31st at the Garden City Hotel. This year’s theme is “I Belong - Just As I Am.” Not only is this event a fantastic evening out, but it raises funds for the PTA. This allows us to incorporate different events at our schools, enriching the experiences of our students.
Sportswear’s Spring online shop opens on Sunday, March 1st until Sunday, April 26th
2026-2027 School Supplies can be purchased using School Code GAR054.
Always feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to discuss any concerns.
