On behalf of the Garden City PTA, I would like to welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year! My name is Jigisha Motwani Mongroo, and I am the Middle School Director. This is my second (& final) year as Director. I am thrilled to welcome all the Middle School students and staff back to school and we anticipate a wonderful year ahead!
Warm Welcome
On August 29th, a group of 7th and 8th grade students worked with the PTA, Mr. Samuelson & Dr. G to leave special notes on lockers to welcome all of our MS students back to school. They also wrote special notes to all of the staff and made beautiful posters to decorate the school. We hope your children enjoyed this surprise as well as the PTA-sponsored balloon decorations and welcome back banners out front.
Thank You
I would like to thank the Middle School administrators, teachers and staff for their tireless efforts in planning the upcoming school year. They have worked extremely hard over the summer to ensure that our children’s health, safety, academic and social experiences are as exceptional as ever. Your PTA membership helped us begin the year with a Welcome Back Breakfast on 8/31/23 for the hard-working staff of our incredible district. We will continue to support all our schools through our hard-working committees and grants.
School Photos
Irvin Simon will take photos at the Middle School on September 14th & September 15th. Pictures will be taken during your child’s gym period. September 14th is Day 2 and September 15th is Day 1 so the day your child has gym is the day they should come in dressed for their photo. If your child is absent, photo make-up day is scheduled for Friday, November 3rd. Look for an email from Irvin Simon for more information on how to order pictures online. This fundraiser supports PTA programs in our schools and we appreciate your support!
Reflections
Reflections is a National PTA cultural arts program that encourages students to express their thoughts and feelings through creative arts. Students in all grades and abilities are encouraged to explore the annual theme through one of six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and/or visual arts.
This year's National PTA Reflections theme is "I Am Hopeful Because….” Entries may be submitted beginning Monday, September 18, 2023, and the deadline is Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Visit https://gardencitypta.org/reflections for more information. Last year the talent was exceptional. While one student received the 2022 National PTA Award of Merit, several were awarded at the county and state levels. You can view their accomplishments by visiting our website.

You are Invited - Middle School & All Schools PTA Meetings
We are saving a seat for you at our PTA meetings. PTA meetings provide parents with school updates from our principal and teachers, as well as from our guest speakers. The meetings are a great way to learn what is going on in and around school. I look forward to having you join us!
Ways to Get Involved
I want to take this opportunity to thank the Middle School PTA Board for volunteering to represent the various committees. We are still in need of volunteers for Reflections, Legislation, & Dinner at the MS! There are opportunities to volunteer with the many PTA committees that fit every schedule at the Middle School. Join one of the many committees that help shape our children’s academic experiences! Please take a minute to look at the list on Sign Up Genius and indicate your interest. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080E4DACAF2DA20-volunteer4
I truly thank you for your continued support of the PTA and I look forward to working with you towards a wonderful and successful year. Please feel free to contact me at middleschool@gardencitypta.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Jigisha Motwani Mongroo
