Middle School June Newsletter
Happy June! We’ve reached the finish line! Congratulations to our students and families on a successful year, especially our 8th graders!
The MS PTA has a few more exciting events up our sleeve for June!
June 1 - June 5: The PTA Health and Safety Committee is hosting a Bike Safety Campaign. Any student interested in participating can create a poster with information on bike safety (see flyer below). Entries should include the child's name, grade and home base on the back of the poster. All participants will receive community service hours and a small gift!
Your children will also be receiving UV color changing bracelets in their health classes this month. Thank you to Health and Safety for finding such a creative way to remind our kids to wear your sunscreen!
June 1 - 12: Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) is hosting its annual Book Ninja event. PARP will be collecting gently used books at each primary and elementary school, and at the middle school. Books will be divided by reading level into baggies and our ninjas will be hiding books around parks and public areas of GC on the evening of June 18. On June 19, our students can hunt down the book baggies. Students will have some new books just in time for summer reading! The Middle School Donation Bin will be at the front door of the Middle School.
June 6, 9 am - 12 pm: School Supply and Sportswear Pick Up in the Middle School Cafeteria. Please make arrangements to pick up your orders during this window. If you cannot make it, you are welcome to ask a friend to grab your items when they pick up their own. I am in need of a few middle school student volunteers to help with unloading and organizing supplies on Friday, June 5 from 4 - 6 pm. Community Service hours will be given. If your student is interested in volunteering, please email me - middleschool@gardencitypta.org.
June 12: 8th Grade Ice Cream Social and Yearbook Signing will take place during the last two periods of the day on Friday, June 12. We are hoping for some sunshine for an afternoon of celebrating with our friends! If you would like to contribute snacks and water to the event, sign up here.
June 19: 6th Grade End of Year Bowling Bash will take place at the AMF Garden City Lanes at 987 Stewart Avenue from 11 am - 12:30 pm. The day includes unlimited bowling along with pizza, fries and drinks. Each child will also receive an arcade card. We have the entire bowling alley reserved just for our 6th grade class and any faculty that would like to join. Please sign up by Friday, June 5 so that we have an accurate head count. There may be a small fee per child depending on how many children RSVP. Additional details will be sent out after June 5. You will notice that the sign up is in groups of 5. 5 children will be assigned to each lane. If your child has classmate(s) they would like to bowl with, they are welcome to sign up together in the same lane. While we do not need each child to be accompanied by a parent, we ask that each lane group be accompanied by one adult. Additionally, we would love a few extra parent volunteers on hand to keep things running smoothly. Please look for the volunteer section in the sign up genius. We hope to get a great turnout to celebrate the end of our 6th grade year!
Sincerely,
