Welcome back, Garden City Middle School! We hope you all had a fantastic summer and are having a great start to the school year. A warm welcome to all our new families. We hope you have had a smooth transition so far.
Welcome Back
On August 21st, a group of 7th and 8th grade students worked with the PTA to create lawn signs with welcome back and motivational messages to get everyone excited for the first day of school. We hope your children enjoyed this surprise as well as the PTA-sponsored balloon decorations and welcome back banners out front. The volunteers also wrote welcome back messages to teachers and staff. Our teachers and staff have worked extremely hard over the summer to ensure that our children’s health, safety, academic and social experiences are as exceptional as ever.
School Photos
I can’t believe photo day has already come and gone - it was a huge success. The photographers commented on what a well mannered and polite group of kids we have in Garden City. Thank you to the parent volunteers and gym teachers for keeping the day running smoothly. If your child was absent or is unhappy with their photo, photo make-up day is scheduled for Friday, November 14th. Look for an email from Irvin Simon for more information on how to order pictures online. This fundraiser supports PTA programs in our schools and we appreciate your support!
Middle School Yearbook
You may have started getting emails from Jostens about the Middle School Yearbook. If you are interested in ordering a yearbook, you can place your order here. Ordering is entirely optional. For 8th grade families, there will be an 8th grade social and yearbook signing event in June! Yearbooks will be distributed at the end of the school year.
Reflections
Reflections is a National PTA cultural arts program that encourages students to express their thoughts and feelings through creative arts. Students in all grades and abilities are encouraged to explore the annual theme through one of six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and/or visual arts. This year's National PTA Reflections theme is "I Belong.” For more information, and to view past winners, click here.
Spirit Week and Homecoming
Spirit Week is scheduled for Monday, September 15 - Friday, September 19, 2025. I’m including the themes for each day of Spirit Week below.
Monday: Pajama Day
Tuesday: Tropical Tuesday
Wednesday: America Day (Red, White and Blue!)
Thursday: Color Challenge!
Friday: Spirit Day (Spirit Day Shirt, Maroon and Gray, Jerseys or other GC gear!)
The final event of this exciting week is our Homecoming Parade and Football Game on Saturday, September 20. The game will begin at 3 pm. One of the parade route viewing stations is on Stewart Avenue in front of the Middle School. Families are welcome to gather to watch the parade together. Stay tuned for more details on Homecoming events!

Join Us
I hope you will join me in supporting the PTA. Just like you, the PTA has supported your child from the time they entered Garden City Public Schools and will continue to support them through their senior year. Your annual membership covers all the schools your children attend. The simple and convenient way to become a member is to join PTA online. In addition to the PTA, SEPTA provides support and funding for programs that benefit all Garden City students. You can join SEPTA here.
You are Invited - Middle School & All Schools PTA Meetings
We are saving a seat for you at our PTA meetings. PTA meetings provide parents with school updates from our principal and teachers, as well as from our guest speakers. The meetings are a great way to learn what is going on in and around school. I look forward to having you join us!
Our first meeting is Thursday, September 18 at 9:15 am in the Middle School Auditorium. We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Michael Davola, Garden City Tech Developer and Dianna Intintoli, Garden City Food Services Coordinator. They will give overviews or their programs and can answer all your burning questions about School Tool, Parent Square and the Middle School Cafeteria.
Ways to Get Involved
I want to take this opportunity to thank the Middle School PTA Board for volunteering to represent the various committees. We are still in need of volunteers for Reflections, Legislation, Sportswear and Nominating Committee! There are opportunities to volunteer with the many PTA committees that fit every schedule at the Middle School. Please reach out to me for more information.
I truly thank you for your continued support of the PTA and I look forward to working with you towards a wonderful and successful year. Please feel free to contact me at middleschool@gardencitypta.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Tara Kelly

Here are the upcoming events for Middle School Families:
PTA meetings offers a valuable opportunity to interact with other parents, hear from a school teacher or principal, and learn up-to-date information. Parents can ask questions and start to build relationships with parents, teachers and school administrators. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences. Come join us!

We're bringing the energy, the colors, and the school pride! This is one of our favorite traditions leading up to Homecoming in Garden City Schools. Where students, staff, and families come together for a week of fun, creativity, and community.
Each day has its own exciting theme—so get those outfits ready and let's make it a week to remember!
