NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER -STRATFORD SCHOOL-

Hello Stratford Families,

The school year is well underway and many exciting things have been happening at our school.  The children and staff are continuing to embrace the school’s “Up” themed kindness initiative and all classes read and discussed the book “The Technology Tail: A Digital Footprint Story” to begin the conversation that kindness occurs in person and in the digital world.

Our first PTA meeting occurred on October 17th, we were so pleased to see so many families in attendance, it was our biggest meeting yet.  The Stratford board and school gave updates, we voted on the NY State PTA Resolution and experienced an engaging presentation from Mr. Davola, our children’s computer/technology teacher.  Mr. Davola talked about changing the conversation and helping our children to become “Creators not Consumers”.

The Reflection committee is hard at work, on October 17th the second graders had an assembly to promote interest in the Reflection contest.  The submission box is in the main lobby and will be available until November 6th.  Any questions please contact Samantha Welsh at samanthawelsh@verizon.net.  This years theme is “Within Reach”.

Our Box Tops committee rolled out a new program.  The classes will be competing to collect the most Box Tops, the class with the most this month will get a FREE HOMEWORK PASS! And the class who collected the most Box Tops at the end of the year will have an Ice Cream Party in June! Get clipping!

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered in our library.  The sign up genius will be adjusted to show classroom schedules so parents can volunteer while their child is in the library.  Your help is greatly appreciated as it allows Mrs. Donovan to have more time to help all the students to select appropriate books, and learn to use all the resources in the library.

This Friday will be our second Family Fun event of the 2017/2018 school year, BINGO NIGHT! Bingo will be in the school cafeteria with staff members calling numbers and many fun prizes.  Sign up closed out once again, but don’t worry, we have more Family Fun nights coming.

School Reminders:

  • November 15th is the Fifth Grade Focus Blood Drive.  The blood drive will be held from 7am-2pm.  Each Fifth Grader will recruit three blood donors, and are learning about the need for blood donations. If you don’t have a Fifth grader, but have one at your bus stop and are willing to donate, please talk to them (or their parent) about being willing to be one of their donors, let’s support this great community service project.

Thank you!
