NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER - GARDEN CITY HIGH SCHOOL PTA -

PTA Meeting Info

  • November 2nd meeting agenda, committee reports and approved minutes from 9-19-17 and draft minutes from 11-1-17 meeting,  will be posted on the HS PTA webpage along with presentations from the HS Robotics Club, Ms. Calemmo’s Stress Reduction Center and Maker Space

  • December 12th @ 7:00PM - Bob Wolf H.O.P.E. Skills - Parents and students are invited to attend this meeting.  Bob Wolf, founder of  HOPE® The Students' Bridge To Business and HOPE® Skills Presentations, will speak about skills which:

  • Every student can learn and apply

  • Complement what students learn in school and the technology they use every day

  • Help build self-confidence and self-esteem  

  • Give students a competitive edge in life

  • Are used to get interviews, interview successfully, network effectively, build supportive relationships, be a productive team player and a confident leader

  • Prepare students to earn support from and work effectively with people, the one constant they will encounter in every job as they navigate their career path

Membership - Thank you to the many HS families that have already joined PTA this year. We would love to see a higher percentage of HS families support PTA. You can join online - Click Here to Join  Or you can drop off your membership to the membership reps who will be at the Junior & Parents College Information Night on November 29th.  We need your support!

  • Josh Ochs, Smart Social - Digital Citizenship & Social Media Safety - November 28th @ 7:00PM - (Note: He will also be presenting to MS - 8th grade & all HS students.)

Sportswear -

  • November 18 - 9 AM to 12 NOON - PTA Sportswear Sale Pick-up at High School in Merillon Avenue Lobby. Thank you to everyone that supported the Sportswear Sale!

Photography - If your child attended Photo Make-up Day  - You should have received an email of your child’s proofs on Wednesday, November 1st.

Freshman BBQ - Thank you to the over 200+ students that registered for the Candyland Party/BBQ! Watch for photos from the event to be posted shortly.


Skit Night
- Senior Parents - Mark your calendars - January 8th is the Mandatory Meeting for Parents in the HS Auditorium at 7 PM. Don’t miss out on participating in this GC tradition!


Site Based
- Their first meeting took place in the beginning of October.  Watch for minutes to be posted on the High School website.


Long Island Gay PTSA -

  • Next meeting date -   Thursday, 11/16/17, 7pm – Bay Shore

The Long Island Gay Parent Teacher Student Association (LI Gay PTSA) is the only chartered PTA of its kind in the nation, bringing together parents, educators, students, and community members to advocate for LGBT students and families.  The LI Gay PTSA works with Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) to develop strategies to create safer, more affirming schools so that LGBT students can reach their full potential.  

All current dues paying members are encouraged to attend our meetings as well as anyone interested in becoming a member of the Long Island Gay PTSA.
