Winter Wonderland - Winter Wonderland will be held at Garden City High School on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. (*please note the end time change to 9:00 pm) in the cafeteria. (Rationale for the time change - in prior years students line up at 9pm looking to leave.)

Holiday Book Suggestions from HS Librarian - Ms. Margaux DelGuidice-Calemmo

  • The Sarah Maas books are incredibly popular with our students. She wrote the "Throne of Glass" series and "A Court of Thorns and Roses" series. I had a student jumping up and down with excitement as I was opening the box yesterday. I like that they are series, so students can keep going once they find a title that they like.  Here is a link to her Good Reads page with all of her titles:

Would you like more book suggestions?  Let us know!

HS Club and Activities Information -

  • Students and Senior Citizens - Advisor, Natasha Khan

    • Very new club.  December 14th (tentative date), we are going to the GC Senior Center to bake with the participants.  Our students are very excited about the program.  Advisor - Natasha Khan

  • Miracle Club - Advisor, Nancy Fleming

    • -- The Charlie's Champions Foundation and the Miracle Club are collecting gift cards ranging from $10 to $25 to provide holiday gifts this season to the teen patients at the Cancer Center for Kids at NYU Winthrop Hospital.  Please put a smile on their faces by dropping off your gift card(s) donation at the front desk or in Room 129 at the High School.

    • -- On December 20th, the Menges Family is hosting a memorial blood drive at 27 Hilton Avenue from 2-8 p.m.  Please donate, and encourage your teen children to donate, in honor of Bobby, who did so much to help so many.

    • The Miracle Club will be selling stadium cushions at the Wrestling Tournament at the high school on December 9th beginning at 9 a.m. to raise monies for the Bobby Menges "I'm Not Done Yet" fund.

  • GCHS Math Team, the Mathletes - Faculty Coach, Peter Santoro

    • Our dedicated students (about 25 to 30) meet on Friday mornings to practice for monthly competitions.  We compete against Chaminade, Mineola, and Herricks High Schools.  Our competitions are from October through March.  In addition, I always bring a team of students (either 15 or 20) to compete in the Nassau County Mathematics Tournament at SUNY Old Westbury, typically the first Friday in February. (Any student is welcome to join the Math team.  The problem solving skills that the students share with each other will help any student.)

  • It's Academic/ intramural Quiz Bowl - Advisor, Kevin O’Hagan

    • We will begin signing up teams for the 2018 Intramural Quiz Bowl Tournament in early January.   This is a tournament that is conducted after school with teams composed of one teacher/ staff member and three students. Students form the teams and ask a teacher/ staff member to join them.

    • Meets consist of 100 trivia questions on a variety of subjects and last for approximately one hour.  There are three qualifying rounds before the Semifinals.  The top NINE teams will qualify for Semifinals. The three teams that win their Semifinal room will go to the Finals to compete for that coveted title of Intramural Quiz Bowl Champion. All of these Rounds will take place late January/ early February.

  • Sports Debate Club - Advisor, Tim Casale

    • The Sports Debate Club that meets at 2:45pm Wednesday afternoons in room 136.  With both college and professional football heading into the homestretch, hockey season well underway and exciting basketball on tv every night, our club has plenty to discuss.  We welcome new members each week and would love students to come and share their thoughts and opinions.  Students debate in teams so no one should feel he/she needs an in-depth sports background or to ever have played sports in the past.  The club is as much about camaraderie, public speaking, topic analysis and having fun as it is about sports.

  • Italian Club/Italian Honor Society - Advisor, Lea Brunetti

    • In the past, members of the Italian Club and those of the Italian Honor Society have collaborated to donate to victims of natural disasters, to the Breast Cancer Walk, to the Miracle Club and made baskets of food and toys for the needy in local communities.  In addition, funds are used for the Carlo Mazarese Scholarship given to one or two seniors. This year, the first activity involved a Walk to benefit Cooley's Anemia Foundation.  The students raised $2570. On December 11, they will sponsor a fund raiser through Chipotle. We shall encourage students to patronize the restaurant on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola between 4:00 and 6:00 pm. The money raised from that will be used to make stockings that will be donated to children on the day of the Epiphany, which is the date when children in Italy receive gifts.

  • Latin Club - Advisor, Kathleen Durkin

    • Latin Club will be hosting its annual Saturnalia Banquet in the High School Library on Friday, December 15 from 5-8pm. There will be food, games, and prizes. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Mrs. Durkin (starting Dec. 4) or at the door.
