Stewart School PTA Accomplishments

Your support of PTA through your annual membership and participation in our fundraising effort means so much to Stewart School and all the schools in Garden City.

Here is a list of just some of what we accomplished for the 2016-2017 school year:

  • Held four PTA meetings to help keep our parents updated on Stewart School news and provide discussions on relevant topics.
  • Published monthly newsletters, keeping parents informed on the happenings at school.
  • Sponsored the return of the well-known children’s book author, Lauren Tarshis.
  • Sponsored 5th Grade Annual Trip to the Metropolitan Opera House.
  • Co-sponsored with the school and parents, the 5th Grade combined Stratford-Stewart yearbook.
  • Sponsored Game Builders Academy’s programs for 3rd and 4th grades, funded by a 2015-16 approved PTA Grant.
  • Sponsored through a PTA Grant (pending membership approval at the June 1st Stewart PTA Meeting) the purchase of 12 Lego MindStorm Robots to be used to further the to enrich it’s curricula with technology based courses that both support the NYS standards and further our existing focus on math, science, engineering, and technology.  As part of this initiative, Stewart would like to introduce robotics based teaching that will allow students to “fail forward” and problem solve as a group, work collaboratively and apply their math and science skills to work on a variety of robotics programming activities.
  • Facilitated the National PTA Reflections Contest
  • Planned and co-sponsored the Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) program in March.
  • Facilitated with the help of our wonderful class parents, Back to School Night activities.
  • Organized and staffed two Stewart Photo Days.
  • Co-sponsored with our community partners, Parent University, an evening of parenting workshops.
  • Co-sponsored with SEPTA: Differentiated Learning evening presentation
  • Attended fire and safety drills, participating in District Health & Safety and Site-Based meetings.
  • Attended meetings of the PTA Curriculum Committee with district administration.

PTA helping around Stewart School

  • Assisted with the organization of Spirit Week activities include the distribution Spirit Day t-shirts.
  • OPERATION GRATITUDE: This year Stewart School, with the help of Pizza Friday sales, Stewart School raised money to send Halloween Candy to our troops around the world and participated in Operation Gratitude! Stewart was able to send 17 boxes of candy to our troops.  We take Halloween candy for granted, but the troops don’t and they love receiving our packages!  The PTA played a big role in coordinating the shipment of the boxes to the troops.
  • STEAM INITIATIVE: The PTA is committed to collaborating with the school district to help subsidize STEAM activities for our students.  This year, Stewart hosted it’s first STEAM night for our 3rd Grade students. It was a great interactive evening and the children had a blast! They were able to work with wind tunnels, build rocket ships that shot into the air and also create Lego cards that they were able to race.   The PTA helped coordinate this event and we were very excited to have it’s debut this year!
  • Assisted with the Stewart School 5th Grade Blood Drive.
  • Facilitated Stewarts School’s Box Tops program.

Thank you for your support of the Garden City PTA.
Together we can achieve great things!
