What Does the Garden City PTA Do?
Since 1945, the Garden City Parent Teacher Association has been dedicated to serving children and families in our community.
Today's GC PTA is a network of 3,000 parents, teachers, administrators and community members devoted to the educational, social and emotional success of children. Our commitment to creating a collaborative environment where families and the school community can work together has and will continue to foster positive change in our schools and within our community. Together we are a powerful voice for all our children, a relevant resource for our families and a strong advocate for public education.
Through our annual membership drive and fundraising efforts, we provide cultural programs, speaker engagements, health and safety programs, monetary awards to high school seniors and so much more. Many of our events and programs have become longstanding traditions in our schools and for our students. Our grants have enhanced the educational experience for students in each of our seven schools. Our members can be found volunteering their time and talents in our schools and throughout our community.
Our partnerships with our sister organization, Garden City Special Education PTA, as well as other community organizations supporting our children and schools strengthens our commitment to you and your child. Get to know our community partners – see links in the tab to the left.
How Does Being a PTA Member Benefit Me?
PTA provides opportunities to meet with others who have the same interests as you. By sharing common concerns, you will feel more empowered. Being part of PTA connects families and schools and results in parental support and makes school involvement easier. PTA also provides educational opportunities for students.
From local-level parent education meetings to our involvement with NYS and National PTA, PTA encourages learning and the sharing of accomplishments, interests, and concerns. Ultimately, PTA provides the opportunity to serve, to volunteer and to contribute to the welfare of all children, because children represent our future.
PTA will introduce you to a great variety of new activities and opportunities to share your special talents. PTA will give you the opportunity, not only to impact your community but to have input in major legislative and policy issues affecting children throughout the state. Membership gives you a voice for Garden City children!
Why Should I Get Involved?
PTA is the largest parent involvement resource available to you today. Your child is why you should belong. Research has proven that children do better when their parents are involved both at home and at school. Self-esteem grows, grades improve, and schools thrive.
There's a simple way for you to help your child succeed: Join PTA! You'll belong to a community of parents committed to their children's well-being and to improving school performance. When PTA gets involved, children benefit. When YOU get involved with the PTA, the child who benefits the most is your own!
I Work and Can't Volunteer at the School During the Day. How Can I Help?
PTA offers many volunteer opportunities throughout the year and we work around your schedule. We welcome your help - whether you can volunteer every week, have only a few hours throughout the year, need to help from home or only in the evenings. There are many opportunities to get involved.
What if I Have a Suggestion?
Please contact any of our Executive Committee Members (see Contact us) or attend any our School PTA meetings. We want to hear your suggestions!
I have a question...
