Happy October! September was a jam packed month at the Middle School. It was so nice to see both new and familiar faces at Back to School night. I was, as always, so impressed with the enthusiasm and dedication of our Middle School teachers and faculty. I’m looking forward to a great academic year ahead.
We lucked out with beautiful weather for the Homecoming parade and game. Hopefully you were able to catch a glimpse of the Middle School car, decorated for the theme created and chosen by our students - GOAT = Garden City Middle School is the Greatest of all Time. The students worked hard decorating artwork that was displayed on our car. A special thank you to the staff who supported the project, and all the parents who donated supplies and volunteered their time to help decorating!
It was great to see so many of you in person and virtually at our first PTA Meeting! We hope you found the presentations helpful and informative. If you missed the meeting, you can find meeting minutes on the MS PTA Website. The Middle School website also includes information on many of the programs that were discussed, specifically PaySchools and Parent Square and SchoolTool. We hope you will join us for the first All-Schools PTA Meeting of the year which will take place at the MS at 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 17th.
SEPTA also held their first meeting, which featured an amazing presentation by Dr. Michael Comiskey on Cultivating Relationships. If you missed the presentation, you can find it here.
Picture Day went off without a hitch last Thursday and Friday, thanks to the amazing Middle School staff and parent volunteers. If your child missed their photos or is interested in retakes, they are scheduled for Friday, November 15. More information to come.
And last but not least, the 6th graders had a blast at Field Day on October 2. Lots of cheering and laughter was heard throughout the sports fields and in the auditorium. Thank you so much to the staff and volunteers who helped make the event a success.
Be sure to regularly check the Middle School website for daily announcements and the calendar, along with the PTA website and social media to keep up on what is happening around our schools.

You are Invited - Middle School & All Schools PTA Meetings
We are saving a seat for you at our PTA meetings. PTA meetings provide parents with school updates from our principal and teachers, as well as from our guest speakers. The meetings are a great way to learn what is going on in and around school. I look forward to having you join us! In addition to the PTA, SEPTA provides support and funding for programs that benefit all Garden City students. You can join SEPTA here.
Reflections
Reflections is a National PTA cultural arts program that encourages students to express their thoughts and feelings through creative arts. Students in all grades and abilities are encouraged to explore the annual theme through one of six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and/or visual arts. This year's National PTA Reflections theme is "Accepting Imperfections.” The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, November 5, 2024. For more information, and to view past winners, click here.
Ways to Get Involved
As we continue into the year, I would like to thank the Middle School PTA Board for volunteering to represent PTA committees and chair School committees. We are very lucky to be in a school district that values parent collaboration and works closely with PTA committees to make a difference for our children.
There are many ways to get involved at the Middle School, and volunteers are needed throughout the year usually for short-term and limited-time commitments. Join one of the many PTA committees that help shape our children’s academic experiences. We welcome interest in all committees, and are actively seeking volunteers to work specifically on Sportswear and Reflections! Sign up here.
I sincerely thank you for your continued support of the PTA and I look forward to working with you this year. Please feel free to contact me at middleschool@gardencitypta.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Tara Kelly
